SHARK ATTACK KILLS 18 YEAR-OLD AT CLEARWATER BEACH, FLORIDA
It started out as a perfect first day of vacation: sunny skies and a high of 91. The Smith family thought they were going to have a fabulous second day of spring break when, out of know where, disaster struck.
The Smith’s 18 year-old son, Eric Smith, was riding the waves in an inner tube with his little sister, Carly Smith (age 10), when one shark grabbed his right arm. Eric was in a state of shock and was kicking and punching the shark with his other arm. Seconds later, another shark came along and grabbed his left leg. Now, there was nothing more he could do but hope the sharks will stop.

Eric’s dad, Evan, ran out into the water to try and fight off the sharks while Eric’s mom, Elizabeth, called 911. Carly was in complete shock and didn’t know what was going on. Eric was struggling to stay alive when his dad was kicking and punching the sharks with all his might. The sharks pulled Eric under twice before they dragged him away.

The once relaxing, perfect spring break for the Smith family turned into complete devastation. The family is still in Clearwater, Florida as people are still searching for their son’s missing body. Elizabeth Smith’s says, “we’re not going home without him”.

I found this website by searching for shark attack stories in Google.  I narrowed my search to reliable sources, for example ABC news.  This is a great story because it shows the harmful and emotional effects shark attacks can have on people and loved ones.  An innocent man was just swimming back to his boat when, out of nowhere, he was attacked by 2 great white sharks.

This website is similar to the last one.  It is from a reliable news source, CBS news and shows how terrifying a shark attack can be.

This article comes from a news source as well.  It is from MSNBC. It wasn’t your typical shark attack story because dolphins were involved and made a safe ring around the victim to help him to shore. I thought this article was interesting and shows how every shark attack is different.

This is from CNN, another reliable news source.  This video was interesting because in this case the victim died from the shark attack and that a couple years earlier someone else died from a shark attack in the same area.

This short clip from Shark Week 2010 is a reliable source as well because it is from the Discovery Channel.  I thought it was interesting to watch because he is floating in the water poking at sharks all around him and he is not being attacked.  It shows how unpredictable shark attacks can really be.
